Business Management (07-08)

MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS:  This class provides the opportunity for the students to acquire the valuable skill of touch typing. Upon learning the keyboard by touch, the students will apply their skills in application of word processing, excel, power point and publisher. If time allows the student will also learn about digital cameras, making calendars, etc. There will be college credit offered to those who earn an A. 

RECORD KEEPING:  This is an introduction to on-the-job activities of the typical bookkeeper.  The activities covered are as follows:  control of business funds using the checkbook and the petty cash book, sales and accounts receiving cycle, use of the general ledger in a service business, payroll records and calculating data for financial statement.  Projects in the form of packets will be used to gain this understanding.

OFFICE SKILLS:  Basic Office Skills is a course that includes basic training in filing with the use of a 10 key printing display calculator, filing,  and other business skills. 

PERSONAL FINANCE:  Personal Finance is a semester course designed to provide learning ac­tivities and experi­ences related to money management, financial planning, credit and how to use it wisely, purchasing of goods and services (home, car, food, clothing), and the rights and responsibilities of buyers and consumers.  Units include banking, insurance, credit, taxes, financial planning and housing.

CAREER EDUCATION:  The Career Education course is intended to provide students in Grade 11 with a broad base of career planning information and skills to assist them in exploring, selecting, and preparing for a career.  Included in the course are self-evaluation tests to determine skills and aptitudes, mock interviews, college and career searches, resumes, letter of applications, information about colleges and universities, and scholarship information.  Job shadowing and guest speakers round out the program.
