Computer Instruction (07-08)

Oracle Database Academy:  Databases are the “engine” of a lot of systems you know and use.  Almost any time you sign in to a web site or participate in a discussion board, that information is stored in a database.  Any time you go Safeway for a snack, you are interacting with a database that stores and updates the entire inventory.  If you find that perfect item on a eBay auction, you are interacting with a database.  Databases are all around, so are database jobs.  The course is the first step to a $60,000++ job should you choose to continue to develop your skills after this program.  Even if you don’t want your job to be in databases, the program is a great way to get two semesters worth of college credit while you are still in high school.  Yes, college credit is available for this class.  What will you learn:  In the Oracle Academy, you will learn some of the techie side of databases like how they work, how select information from a database and how to sort that information.  You will also learn the business side of databases like working with customers, designing systems and sharing information.

Web Design and Graphics:  In this course students learn how to design and create web sites and web graphics using both basic and professional level software. Students in the class are the Mac-Hi web team responsible for designing and creating the 200+ page Mac-Hi web site. In addition, this team will be creating and managing the Pioneer People web site as well as a wide variety of other web site projects.  Students will complete various projects as well as daily assignments, notes, and periodic quizzes. Some of what students will learn is basic HTML coding, how to create and/or use web graphics, pictures, and animations and how to create a large site using professional web software.  College credits at Walla Walla Community College are free to Mac-Hi students, however there is a one time $15 registration fee for the college.
