Physical Education (07-08)

PE I PROJECT ADVENTURE:  This is a required class for all freshmen.  Through the Project Adventure program, the student will progress through experiences that will emphasize interpersonal relationships, group problem-solving, and individual growth.  The emphasis in the course is to encourage students to develop self-confidence and a sense of trust in their classmates.  Activities will include: non-traditional games and exercises, basic safety skills and spotting, group and personal initiative problems, the climbing wall, and Ropes course.  Participation in aerobic conditioning is also required.

PE II REQUIREMENT -  Will be filled by completing any selective within the Physical Education department after the Freshman year.  Freshmen taking the PE Selectives will receive elective credit.  Required for all degrees.

All selectives may be repeated with a pass/fail grade

PHYSICAL FITNESS:  This course in conditioning and weight training emphasizes improving muscular fitness as well as cardiovascular endurance.  The class may include circuit training with free weights, work on the universal gym, aerobic fitness activities and individual record keeping. May be repeated. 

TEAM SPORTS:  Students will participate in soccer, football, basketball, softball, hockey and volleyball.  Along with the basic skills students will also learn basic rules and regulations.

INDIVIDUAL SPORTS:  In this course emphasis will be placed on the development of skills for lifetime and leisure time activities.  Activities will include tennis, golf, bowling, badminton, and pickle ball.

RECREATIONAL GAMES:  Students will participate in activities that may include hackey sack, ping-pong, frisbee games, horseshoes, archery, badminton, pickle ball, and orienteering.  Students will become knowledgeable about basic history, rules and regulations of each activity.

AEROBIC FITNESS:  This course will emphasize the improvement of aerobic conditioning through activities which may include aerobic dance, Tae Bo, circuit training, walking, and muscle toning activities.

WEIGHT TRAINING:  This course is designed to improve muscular fitness and strength.  Students will design and implement personal lifting programs tailored around their own needs.
