My name is Ralph Brown. I am the principal of McLoughlin High School. This is my ninth year as a member of Mac-Hi’s education team. I have served six years as principal and three years as vice-principal. Before coming to Mac-Hi in 1999, I taught for two years in Japan and six years in Monument, Oregon. Following an enlistment in the U.S. Army that took me from Ohio to Oregon, I received an A.A. degree from Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. I transferred to Eastern Oregon University where I earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Education. All of my administrative coursework has been completed through Lewis and Clark College. |

McLoughlin High School has a very dedicated staff that strives to prepare our students for whatever path they choose to follow after graduation. Some of our students go on to college, some go to trade schools, others join the military and a large number enter the workforce. We have college prep, general studies and tech prep classes offered each semester. We have a standard 7-period-day with classes that are approximately 50 minutes long. Our students earn .5 credits for each semester class that they complete. We currently offer three diploma options at Mac-Hi. We offer the State diploma that requires students to complete 22 credits, the Mac-Hi diploma that calls for 24 credits and the Honors diploma, which requires students to pass 26 credits on a very rigorous college-prep plan. In 2010, due to changes in Oregon’s requirements for graduation, we will likely offer only two options. Mac-Hi students have a variety of extracurricular activities available, including drama, band, choir, curriculum-related clubs, service clubs, and interscholastic athletics. Our school is a member of the Greater Oregon League (GOL). McLoughlin High School is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and presently serves about 440 students. Our student body is comprised of roughly 57% Anglo students, 42% Latino students and 1% African-American students and others. There is so much more to tell you about our wonderful school, but time and space do not allow for all of the good to be recorded. I invite you to come visit our school or call me at (541) 938-5591 Ext. 7201, if you would like any further information. Have a great year.
